From clip-in to weft hair, the best way to store newly purchased hair extensions may affect the life of precious braids. Regardless of the type of hair extension, all hair needs to be cared for to maintain its flawless appearance and make it lasting. If you carelessly take care of your new suit, it will become a messy nest. Not to mention that the life span of hair extensions is much shorter.
Ignoring cleaning or brush extension can cause tangles, knots and matting. This doesn't look good to anyone! But did you know that storage is also an important part of extended care?
1. Why should you store hair extensions?
Many girls admit that poor storage habits inevitably lead to unwearable extensions. If you just want to throw your wefts into the closet or stuff them into the drawers, once you take them out, they will look terrible!
That kind of tangled mess can't be dealt with at all. When your hair is in this state, you must wash, comb and style it before installing it. The time spent on avoidable things is too long. It is easier to store your hair properly and prepare it when you want to wear it. Also, if you don't plan to take care of them, what's the point of spending so much money on high-quality Remy extensions? Do you want your hair to be unusable for a few weeks?
The correct storage of hair is very simple and does not require any special storage containers. There are basically a few basic requirements:
l All hair strands must be placed in a dry and cool place without too much moisture.
l When not in use, the extension cord should be kept away from direct sunlight.
Therefore, keep this in mind when choosing a storage location. It only takes a few minutes to safely retract your weft, there is absolutely no reason to avoid it. In addition, this will reduce any mess you have in the room or bathroom.
To make it easier for you, we explained several different simple and quick storage methods for you to choose from. They include storing the receiving and sending items in boxes, using the receiving rack for storage and storage bags, and other information on how to travel with the receiving and sending pieces.
General rules for storing hair extensions
l First, wash your hair and let the hair dry naturally. It's not that you can't use a hair dryer, because you absolutely can! Just make sure that the hair is not tangled.
l Second, use a hair iron to straighten and comb the hair extensions.
l Now, as far as storage is concerned, make sure that the clip is always closed.
l Before placing them anywhere, always make sure that the extension is dry. Otherwise, expect mold and other nasty bacteria.
l Some people recommend vacuum bags, which is a bad idea. We prefer breathable materials such as cotton. This is the ideal place for your hair extension. Or, try a bag with mesh vents.
2. Store Hair Extensions in a Box
This is one of the easiest ways to put away any incoming and outgoing. You can use the box that comes with your hair, or an ordinary shoe box (more on that later). We recommend this storage option when you want to store your hair for a longer period of time and do not plan to use it every day.
Here is how to do this correctly:
First, comb your hair gently to make sure it is beautiful and smooth.
Stack the weft threads together, and then roll them together.
Brush it again, and finally twist up the hair and put it in the box.
If you have a lot of wefts, repeat this step several times to make multiple hair strands.
Close the box and place it in a closet, drawer or shelf.

3. Use Hair Extensions Hangers
Another cool way to safely store extensions is a hanger. There are special hangers specially made for wefts. Nevertheless, if your budget is limited, you can also use regular hangers.
When ordering the clip-in weft that you wear every day, we recommend that you choose this option. This will help you store extensions safely and use them immediately if necessary.
There is no specific formula. Use as many or as few hangers as needed. If you have a multi-piece set, please use multiple hangers. Don't squeeze them! Hangers designed for extension will work better, but this is just a suggestion.
Comb your hair and put the hanger in the closet. The advantage of using a hanger is that you can set the extended style in this way. For example: Curl or straighten the weft yarns while they are still on the hanger.

4. Make Your Own Hair Storage
Is there no spare box? Here are some ideas for creating storage solutions! Believe me, you don’t need to use any tools or build a treehouse-like structure. These storage tips will help you have a hair extension that lasts months instead of weeks.
l Find a drawer of the right size and put a cotton towel at the bottom.
l According to the length of the hair and the size of the drawer, the weft is shaped into "J" or "U".
l Place the extensions gently (after smoothing them out).
l If your drawer is under direct sunlight, please put another layer of cotton cloth on it.
l The same method applies to shoe boxes and other cardboard containers. Do not put your hair in airtight plastic or glass containers. You want to let your expansion breathe!
5. How to Travel with Hair Extensions?
When going on vacation or business trip, all of us want to bring our fancy extensions to make it look more beautiful. But then you face a new problem, how do you pack your hair properly without damaging it?
Simply stuffing them into a travel bag will not work. You may think that wearing extensions is the best way to travel, but you are wrong. If you travel by plane, you may detect the clip-on extension when you pass the metal detector at the airport! Some women won't care, but for other women, this can be very embarrassing. When you lose your hair in front of everyone, you will have to stay in line. Flip-in extensions are not immune, because tiny metal parts are attached to the ring.
If your suitcase has enough space, please take the entire suitcase with you. If the space is small, please purchase a travel bag for expansion. This is a well-designed small invention that can protect your hair. When you are on vacation, remember not to swim in a swimming pool or in the salty sea with an extension cord, as such water may permanently damage your hair!
6. How to Revive Proorly Stored Extensions?
If you make the mistakes we talked about and don’t store your hair properly, chances are you will end up with awful-looking wefts that are completely entangled and lifeless.
Stop! Before you throw away your hair, there are a few things you can try to bring your hair back to life.
l Fill the sink with warm water and add conditioner.
l Put the tangled weft inside and let it sit overnight.
l Rinse the extension and let it air dry.
l Apply some detangling spray and start brushing your teeth.
l Very gentle, but thorough.
l Finally, add any type of natural oil to the hair, which will make the hair lose its luster.
Now the expansion looks like it should be fully restored, but that doesn't mean you should continue to avoid proper storage. As you can see, it takes more than an hour to restore the tangled expansion. This is a long process and does not always work. Therefore, prevention is the best way.
If your extension is severely damaged, please be sure to read our repair guide. Remember, AiryHair also accepts returns for tangled and damaged hair strands. We provide you with protection.
