Christmas is coming soon, and we guess you are considering some big changes to your hair. So, who else is better to chat this month than colorist Laura Gibson. She is one of our preferred accounts for color inspiration. This month, she will tell us how to solve hair problems and what popular tools are worthy of your attention.
Seam Hair: What kind of opportunity did you enter this industry? Has your dream always been to become a hair stylist?
Laura Gibson: When I was 14 years old, I started working as an assistant at Jon David Salon when I was in the first grade of high school. I knew when I was 16 that I wanted to be a stylist, and when I grew up I was also keen to do some hair styling for my friends
Seam Hair: Do you have professional tools for our daily hair styling in your kit?
Laura Gibson: Sure! Hot Tools 32mm professional curling iron is my favorite, its size is perfect for creating loose waves. I also like wet brushes because it is very gentle on your hair. I can't live without my favorite Dyson hair dryer. It uses more power and higher heat, so it is less destructive.
Seam Hair: What do you think will be the biggest hair color trend next year?
Laura Gibson: I think the soft warm colors will cause a sensation, the perfect balance of black hair and red. Rooted appearances will also continue to be popular because they are easy to maintain. Having said that, most of my inspiration comes from my clients. As a colorist, my whole goal is to enhance her natural beauty and show her best features.
Seam Hair: When you often dye your hair, do you have any tips for using hair extensions?
Laura Gibson: The most important part of extensions is that they need to be handled carefully and properly maintained. Don't brush them too hard, and make sure to brush them when they should.
Seam Hair: Instagram has become an important part of this industry. What advice do you have for stylists who want to get more jobs from social media pages?
Laura Gibson: Figure out who you want your target audience to be! Is it the client or another stylist? Then focus on what they want to see. You also need as many networks as possible, it's social media after all...
Seam Hair: What do you think is the biggest mistake people make when it comes to hair color? If you have bad hair, what is the best way?
Laura Gibson: People look at photos and say "I want that" instead of considering their skin tone, eye color, and hair texture. Hair color is like makeup; it should be used to enhance your natural features or make bold statements with interesting colors. If something goes wrong, don’t be nervous, buy a good mask and let your hair rest for a while before repairing it. A few weeks later, then go to see a specialist. If your hair suffers too much chemical damage in a short time, your hair will melt!
